My Creative Workflow for Building Modern Website Interfaces

Digital design workspace with colorful interface studies on screen

Tools change every year; a good workflow should not. Mine has stayed nearly identical for five years because it is built around decisions, not software. Here is how a homepage travels from blank page to launch in my studio.

Collect, then constrain

I begin with a tight moodboard — ten images maximum — and a one-sentence creative direction. Constraints sound limiting, but they are what keep a project coherent when deadlines tighten and opinions multiply.

  • Moodboard and one-sentence direction
  • Component inventory before page design
  • Real copy as early as possible, never lorem ipsum

Design in the browser’s shadow

I design desktop and mobile side by side from the first draft, and I prototype motion the moment layout settles. By the time development starts, every state, breakpoint and transition has already been seen and approved.

A workflow is a promise: to the client that nothing is improvised, and to yourself that nothing is forgotten.

The result is fewer revisions, faster builds and websites that look exactly like the designs everyone fell in love with — because the design was always buildable.
